Filming day 4

After some more feedback we received during editing, we decided to re-film the shots where the killer washes his hands, then add an additional scence similar to the blood pouring down the sink in Scream, to emphasise how much blood has been shed. This time around, we took this shot from a higher angle than before, and made sure that the camera remained in focus. In the background, there is a faint glimpse of the sink hole, which was covered by Virginia's hands during the shot. In final cut pro, we adjusted the colour balance, so the "blood" on the killer's hand would be more bright.

Here we shot an extreme close up of the sink. We had to be careful here, especially since the fake blood would be seen up close, so we adjusted the colour balance again to make the contrast between the foreground and the background less great. Apart from these two shots, this was our final day filming.

Filming Day 2 and 3

As a group we had to re-film the final parts of our film opening , because, according to feedback we got during editing, they contained too many close-up shots of the meat, which takes away from the dramatic climax in the non-diegetic soundtrack. Instead we decided to film additional scenes to keep the tension at a maximum. Here, there is a low angle close-up shot of blood being splattered across the window as soon as the climax in the music piece is reached.

The "blood" was a mixture of water and several acrylic paints. We filmed this twice because the first time wasn't a big enough "splat" to cause any shock. With addition to this, the first time round, The "blood" which was contained inside a bottle was seen at the corner of the frame, and it went out of focus.

These scenes were not included in our storyboard, however, we made some changes as to how the ending goes. Here, the killer's washing the blood off their hands, as if to get rid of the evidence of death/murder. (This is because at the very end of our sequence, the killer is seen closing the door with clean hands)

We shot this scene twice from 2 different angles, a high angle close up from the left and right, in order to avoid a continuity error with the rest of the film opening.

Here, there is a close-up shot of the victim's decapitated head lying on the table. The shot was a pan from a high angle to a low angle, so that the audience will not see that the head is actually severed until the end of that shot. The lighting in the original shot was high-key throughout, but to add more mystery in what happened to the victim until the end,the whole shot was darkened using settings on final cut pro, which left only the back lighting until the end of that shot.

The Making of The Prop Head

This is the creation of a prop head of me. When we were asked to re-film some parts of our film opening to include more shocking scenes for the climax, I decided that we should have one shot where the victim looks unconscious, but is actually decapitated. Here. I started off with a Styrofoam head, and moulded the base of my face with terracotta air drying clay. I left this for 24hrs to dry.

After letting the head dry for 24hrs, I painted on some liquid latex layers to give the appearance of skin. Using liquid latex is relatively easy, as long as you paint in very thin layers and allow each layer to dry before pointing another. I painted on about 20-30 layers across the entire head, then left to dry for an additional 12 hrs. After this, I used some spray paint for the back of the head, oil paints for the bottom of the head, and some acrylic paint for the details of my face. I left this to dry for an hour, then finished the prop with SFX makeup to make it even more realistic
