Initial Location Research

Initial Location Research

Based on our research so far, we decided to have initial locations to look at, as an appropriate location for our own film opening (which includes elements of Mise-en-scene).

This is St. Pancras Old Church, located in Central London. It is believed to be, if not the oldest, one of the oldest churches established in the UK. A church is an ideal location for gothic horror movies, not exclusive to : Vampire movies, Victorian era/Paranormal movies and movies involving monsters. In the daylight, the church looks rich with history, even though it had been restored in the 19th century. Some say that the church itself has lasted since the year 314, and remnants of references of the Doomsday Book and medieval features suggest that it has existed before the Norman Conquest.
Here's the interior of St. Pancras Old Church. The inside is as small as the outside, especially since communities of previous centuries would have not exceeded the capacity of the church. The old church was principally late Tudor. When it was pulled down to be rebuilt, several small Norman columns, pilaster piers and other remains of a Norman edifice were found among the materials used in the wall, leaving no doubt but that the original church had been a Norman structure which had been at some time completely rebuilt and part used as building material in the reconstruction.

Here, in the courtyard, This is a tree, which has many gravestones surrounding the base of it. This is called The Hardy Tree, named after Thomas Hardy, whilst he was working there. The courtyard is the burial place of many aristocrats from the 16th and 17th century, one of which was a vampire writer, named John Polidori, which interested me, since graveyards are usually haunted, in several subgenres of horror. Other famous people, like the composer Bach, William Franklin (Benjamin Franklin's illegitimate son) and John Flaxman, a sculptor were buried here. In full daylight, the courtyard isn't scary, but at night, the grave stones could turn the tree into something more menacing.
Chiurches were a rough focus  as to what a typical horror location would include
